Every single day, humanitarian organizations help provide support to those in need both in our country and worldwide. There are several Christian based organizations that stand out among the rest as being the best. The following three have strong roots, a long history and a great track record for success.

Compassion International

This is a very well known child sponsorship organization headquartered out of Colorado Springs. Their mission is is to release children from physical, spiritual and economic poverty.  Reverend Everett Swanson founded the organization in 1952 in order to assist orphans of the Korean War with food, shelter and Christian teaching, among many other things! Over seventy years later, Compassion International is still very active in the fight to save children from poverty . They have helped over 1.2 million children to date through their sponsorship programs. According to their website, they aim to unravel the lies of poverty, allowing children to be able to grow up having dreams and succeeding under Christian values.

Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational Christian humanitarian organization that is active worldwide. Their mission is dedicated to helping the poor, helping people with physical needs and engaging in mission work throughout poverty stricken nations. Samaritan’s Purse was founded in 1970 by Bob Pierce. His vision was to meet the spiritual and physical needs of people sufferings from hunger, disease, any type of disaster or war. This organization specialized in emergency relief and and been crucial in Providing urgency relief following Hurricane Mitch, The El Salvador earthquakes, the Indian Ocean tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. Samaritan’s Purse also provided food distributions to hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Uganda and Darfur.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army’s mission is to preach the gospel while meeting human needs globally.How do they meet those needs? Through the donations they receive, they provide hunger relief, homeless services and Christmas assistance to those in need. They also support adult programs such as rehab centers, prison ministries and elder care.

There are thousands of worthy Christian charities both here in California as well as in the world. The above three, however, stand out due to their proven history of success in helping the less fortunate. If you are ever looking for an organization to support, these three are among the best!
